Human beings’ experience of awe is universal. The latest positive psychology research into awe finds that all human beings experience moments of awe similarly, regardless of our culture or where we live in the world (Bonner & Friedman, 2011; Keltner & Haidt, 2003; Zhang & Keltner, 2016). Explorations into awe find not only positive effects on self-concept but on sociality (Keltner & Haidt, 1999; Schurtz et al., 2000; Shiota et al., 2007). Pawar (2017) goes so far as to maintain that happiness lies with the loss of self. Piff et al. (2015) finds that awe not only creates the small (humble, grateful) self, but also enhances pro-social behavior….
